Definitely, I feel like right after the “what are you” question is the “can you speak it” question. I’m trying to learn but I only know bits and pieces, it makes me feel like I’m not valid to call myself hafu/hapa.
Im half Japanese and half german.
Yeah I got asked to speak German or English MANY MANY times when i was a kid in school in Japan. Which I basically could not. And I hated it. So I went for a rampage of learning English in Junior high and demolished everyone in the school in tests and exams.
I was the only foreigner back then in that school in which the fact turned me into some kind of a rare creature in that area.
Japan is getting a diversity system update by GOD so hopefully things get easier and better for the future generations of kids with foreign roots.
