Both of my parents have/had a huge appreciation for art, in fact, it was my Japanese mother’s paintings that drew my father to meet her in the first place. My Japanese grandfather lived with us for the last 20 years of his life, and he was an artist as well, as was my great grandfather, and many generation before him. As a result, I was raised to have a deep mono no aware, and to find beauty in all things. Impermanence, the fleeting, the imperfect, etc. Though both my Japanese and European sides had a strong appreciation for art, I feel that it’s my Japanese blood, my Kokoro that causes everything I see and do to be done through the lens of an artist.
